Seconds 1–6: test the cloth
Compress a small area in your hand, then release it. Some natural wrinkling is normal, but cloth that remains crushed or feels papery may require more care than the garment's job allows.

Seconds 7–12: test one seam
Gently spread the fabric across a side or pocket seam. The stitches should remain even without opening holes or showing loose thread. Do not pull hard enough to damage the garment.

Seconds 13–18: check the hardware
Move one button, zip or snap. It should feel secure, align cleanly and operate without catching. Spare buttons are useful, but they do not excuse poor attachment on the garment itself.

Seconds 19–24: turn an edge
Look inside a cuff, hem or pocket. Clean finishing does not need to be decorative, but raw edges, skipped stitches and twisting tape show where production control has slipped.

Seconds 25–30: step back
Check whether stripes, checks, lapels and pockets sit level. Then ask whether the fabric and construction suit the garment's real use. Quality is fitness for purpose, not the largest number of visible details.
