Cream can lean yellow; stone can lean grey. Compare the trouser with a white shirt in the same light. You want a deliberate difference, not an almost-matching white.

Linen brings texture and visible creasing. Cotton-linen blends can give a little more structure. If you want a sharp front pleat, check the actual construction: a pull-on linen trouser is a different choice.
