WHAT THIS IS
Fit Lab is where QWD makes its fit reasoning visible. It starts with clothes a reader can measure, then connects those numbers to cloth, layering and silhouette. It does not use invented body scans, hidden scores or measurements QWD has not actually taken.
A measurement is evidence. It is not a verdict by itself.
THE METHOD
Use the same tape, landmarks and reference garment whenever possible.
Compare clothes with a piece you already wear well. A useful garment reference is often more reliable than a body measurement or the size printed on a label.
Record only repeatable points: chest, shoulder, sleeve and back length for tops; waist, rise, thigh, inseam and hem for trousers.
Fasten the garment, smooth it without stretching and use the same landmarks each time. A number is useful only when it was taken the same way.
Note the intended layer, shoe, climate and silhouette. The same measurement can behave differently in a soft linen shirt, a rigid overshirt or a structured jacket.
Fit is the relationship between measurements, cloth and the wearer. QWD uses the record to explain likely shape and trade-offs—not to promise a universal fit.

Status: protocol registered 2 September 2026; fieldwork is not complete. No finding is presented here until the comparison has been photographed, recorded and reviewed.
Use the same pair, hem, fastening and wearing height for every frame. Record waist, front rise, thigh, inseam and hem using the method above.
Compare a low-profile sneaker, a medium-volume loafer and a fuller boot. The footwear changes; the trouser does not.
Use the same wearer, stance, camera position, focal length, lighting and crop. Capture front, side and walking views rather than selecting only the most flattering frame.
Note apparent break, hem opening, visual balance and any fabric stacking. Separate what the photograph shows from QWD's editorial interpretation.
One wearer, trouser and cloth cannot establish a universal rule. The completed study will identify those limits and will not substitute a staged photograph for exact-product testing.

Each protocol has a private capture form. A result appears only after QWD has recorded a real observation, reviewed its limits and deliberately published it.

READER WARDROBE / CASE-STUDY FORMAT
This is the format QWD will use for reader case studies. It documents a specific problem and controlled change without turning a person into a makeover or hiding what cannot be concluded.
Name the setting, existing clothes, budget and the one decision the case needs to answer.
Photograph front, side and movement views in consistent light, then record relevant garment measurements and the reader's own fit preference.
Adjust fit, proportion, styling or one garment role while keeping the rest of the outfit stable enough to compare.
Record what worked, what did not, what the reader kept wearing and the limits of a single case.
HOW QWD USES IT
QWD combines the record with visible construction, fabric behaviour and the job the garment needs to do. That is why a longer, fuller overshirt can be useful over knitwear while the same dimensions may feel excessive in a summer shirt.
Where a retailer publishes a measurement, QWD treats it as retailer-supplied information and states the evidence level. Where QWD has not handled or measured the exact product, it will not imply otherwise.
REFERENCE
QWD's plain-language method is informed by ISO 8559-3:2018, which defines intervals and ranges used for body-measurement-based size designation. It is a reference for consistent terminology, not a claim that every brand follows one universal block.
