The QWD starting point

Clean low-top sneakers.

Denim already brings texture. A simple low-top keeps the bottom half easy and lets the jacket or shirt provide the interest.

The proportion
A rounded toe and a moderate sole usually give a straight leg enough presence. The trouser should fall past the calf without catching on it.
The hem
A small break is a useful starting point: one soft fold where the hem meets the shoe. Check that the back clears the heel and the front stays clean when you stand naturally.
The colour
Dark indigo takes white, brown or black well. With pale or heavily washed denim, keep the rest of the outfit relaxed; a very polished shoe creates a sharper contrast.

LOOK AT THE WHOLE LINE

The shoe is only half the answer.

01

Let the hem meet the shoe.

Put both shoes on and stand naturally. Look from the side. A good trouser length should survive walking and sitting, not just one pose in a mirror.

02

Match the visual weight.

A narrow leg often suits a quieter sole. A wider leg can carry more shoe. These are useful starting points, not rules against a deliberate contrast.

03

Use socks with intention.

Fine socks close to the trouser colour keep the line connected. No-show socks can work with loafers in warm weather; bare ankles are a choice, not a requirement.
